Asus ROG Swift PG279Q Review

We have been getting a lot of requests to review gaming monitors so we have decided to start with the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q.

The PG279Q is arguably the best 27 inch, 1440p gaming monitor. Hell, it’s arguably the best overall! The screen is an IPS panel meaning great colours and high image quality, not to mention it has an astounding 165Hz refresh rate which is backed up by G-Sync. The monitor also boasts an impressively thin bezel monitor design.

Is the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q Worth It

Tl;Dr – Yes, buy it now.

As of right now (time of writing), this is the best gaming monitor on the market. Even more so if your looking for a gaming monitor with fast refresh rates, IPS panel and don’t mind paying a little bit more for the luxury. The Monitor in second place for us is the Acer Predator XB271HU. For a long time Acer Predator was superior but as of right now the PG279Q has a clear advantage with nicer monitor stand, fantastic OSD control stick and a slightly better refresh rate.

The only issue we have come across are quality control issues at Asus. Some have had to return monitors due to backlight bleed. I honestly don’t think backlight bleed would be noticeable to most people unless you were specifically looking for it.

Packaging and Design

The ROG Swift PG279Q comes in a black box covered in logos and images of the hundred weight in features and specs – as you’d expect. Getting the monitor out of the box is an easy task, something I am over the moon with! Honestly, it’s a real pain in the ass when you buy something for hundreds of dollars/pounds and then you have a panic attack when squeezing it out of its packaging! So kudos to Asus here.

The monitor is fully assembled out of the box and just needs to be unwrapped, connected, plugged in and then turned on. It is that easy.

What is in the box?

In the box you get one PG279Q, HDMI and DisplayPort cables, Power brick, quick start guides, warranty information and a user manual on a CD.

Asus ROG Swift PG279Q Review Verdict

So to summarise if you’re a Nvidia user with some cash to buy the PG279Q then go forth and buy it. If on the other hand, you would rather save a little bit of cash and/or are an AMD users then the Acer XF270HU might be a better fit – although it does look pretty ugly compares to the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q.

We here at eSport Source give the PG279Q a solid 5 out 5.
